Lee County Sheriff’s Office intelligence center uses technology to fight crime

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Sheriff Carmine Marceno said his office is using the Real Time Intelligence Center to “fight crime with data intelligence.”

“We take the data and intelligence received in this comms center and we strategically deploy resources in the area that works for us and is most effective,” Marceno said.

The highly trained analysts working inside are what make the Real Time Intelligence Center different than any other center like it. Facial recognition, social media monitoring, traffic cameras, community cameras, live drone detection and even cameras and mapping inside the Lee County Schools — this is how LCSO is fighting crime.

Deputies arrest 3 in North Fort Myers neighborhood on drug charges

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno credits a citizen tip and good policing for leading to three arrests of men accused of dealing drugs in a North Fort Myers neighborhood.

The department’s Community Response Unit received a tip this month indicating the residents at 4587 Tennyson Drive in North Fort Myers were selling illegal narcotics. The unit began working with the Narcotics Unit. 

“I couldn’t be more proud of our Community Response Unit,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “After receiving complaints from citizens, they worked cohesively with our Narcotics Unit, and quickly removed a neighborhood burden.”

Lee County program fights against hoax threats in schools

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- “We will investigate every threat” echoed the campaign motto, ‘fake threat, real consequence’, which was launched in January 2019.

The plan was put in place by the Lee County School District and local law enforcement to deter students from making hoax threats. This could result in a student being arrested for a felony or a misdemeanor. School discipline includes suspension or expulsion.

Student Resource Officers are at every Lee County School. With schools who educate more than 1,700 students, there are two SROs, according to Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
